When Life Feels Too Hard: Finding Strength to Keep Going With God

Some days, the question is not how to get everything done. It is how to keep going at all. You wake up already tired, look at what needs you, and wonder where the strength will come from. If that is where you are today, give yourself grace. You do not have to have all the answers to take the next step.

As a mom since 2013, I know how easy it is to keep caring for everyone else while quietly carrying your own worries. Work, family needs, and the unexpected can pile up until even small decisions feel heavy. When life feels hard, faith does not require you to pretend otherwise. You can tell God the truth about how you feel and trust that He will meet you there.

God Is With You in the Hard Place

It can feel as though God is far away when a problem will not resolve or your energy does not return. But His presence is not measured by how hopeful you feel on a particular morning. Psalm 46:1 says, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Notice that the verse does not say we will never face trouble. It tells us where we can turn when trouble comes.

You can turn to Him before you know what to say. A prayer as simple as “God, I need You” is enough to begin. You can pray while washing dishes, sitting in your car, or taking a breath before walking into a difficult conversation. God is the center of life, not an extra task to fit into a full schedule. He welcomes you in the middle of the life you are living.

If you are grieving, disappointed, or worn down, you do not need to tidy up those feelings first. Psalm 34:18 offers this comfort: “The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.” Your pain does not disqualify you from His care.

You Do Not Have to Find Tomorrow’s Strength Today

When everything feels impossible, your mind may race ahead: What if this never gets better? How will I manage next month? What happens if I cannot do it all? Those questions are understandable, but trying to carry every future possibility at once can make today feel even heavier.

Lamentations 3:22–23 reminds us, “It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” New every morning. God does not ask you to manufacture a lifetime of strength before breakfast. Today, you can ask for what you need for today.

That may mean choosing one priority, asking someone to help with dinner, or letting a nonessential task wait. Rest and practical support are not signs that your faith is weak. They are ways to care for the life God has given you. Your best is enough, even when your best looks different from yesterday.

When You Feel Hopeless, Bring Your Burden to Jesus

Jesus does not call only the people who have it together. In Matthew 11:28, He says, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” If you are heavy laden, this invitation includes you.

Coming to Jesus can be quiet and honest. You might tell Him what scares you, name the disappointment you have been avoiding, or sit still for a moment without searching for the right words. You might open your Bible and read a single verse rather than expecting yourself to finish a long reading plan. Staying close to God is not a performance.

It can also help to let someone you trust know you are struggling. A friend, pastor, counselor, or health professional can sit with you and help you find a way forward. God’s care often reaches us through people willing to listen. You are not meant to carry every hard thing alone.

Small Steps for a Hard Day

When you do not know how to keep going, make the next step gentle and specific. You do not need to fix your entire life today. Try this:

  1. Pause and pray. Take one slow breath and say, “Lord, help me with what is in front of me.”
  2. Read one promise from Scripture. Write Psalm 46:1 or Matthew 11:28 where you can see it again later.
  3. Care for a basic need. Drink water, eat something nourishing, step outside, or make room for rest.
  4. Choose one doable task. Ask what matters most right now, and allow the rest to wait when it can.
  5. Reach out. Tell one trusted person, “Today is hard. Could you check in on me?”

These steps will not make every challenge disappear. They can, however, help you slow down enough to notice that you are not facing this moment by yourself. If your distress feels unbearable or you are worried you might hurt yourself, please seek help right away. In the U.S. or Canada, call or text 988; elsewhere, contact your local crisis service or emergency number. Reaching for immediate support is a courageous next step.

Keep Going, One Faithful Step at a Time

Sometimes encouragement sounds bold. Other times, it sounds like a quiet reminder that you can try again tomorrow. Isaiah 41:10 says, “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” God’s promise is not that you must hold everything up. It is that He will uphold you.

You may not see the whole path yet. You may still need help, rest, and time. None of that means you have failed. Bring God the next honest prayer. Take the next small step. Give yourself grace along the way. When life seems too hard to keep going, remember that you do not have to keep going in your own strength.

Meet Sara Gama

As the leader of “Mom-ual: Manual for Moms”, I take great pride in being able to provide a safe and supportive platform for all mothers out there, be it first-time moms, experienced ones or single moms, working or stay-at-home.

Our goal is to create a sense of community where mothers can come together, share resources, and guide each other through the joys and struggles of motherhood. We understand that raising a child is both wonderful and challenging, and it takes a village to handle it all.

As an experienced parent myself since 2013, I truly understand firsthand how overwhelming motherhood can be, and that is why I created this community.
My mission is to provide a place where overwhelmed mothers can receive the encouragement and support they need to thrive in their roles as parents.

Proverbs 31:28 – “Her children arise up, and call her blessed”.
